Flying Saucer Downtown is Opening the Cellar

Talk to any Houstonian Beer Knurd and they will all agree: Flying Saucer Downtown is the OG Houston beer bar. No matter your opinion of other iconic beer bars in this wonderful city, they cannot compete with the volume of beer that Flying Saucer has amassed in its 17 years. With an ever-expanding stockpile, Flying Saucer is

Whole Foods Market Beer Dinners: What to Expect

At first, the setting of a WFM beer dinner feels exactly like you’d imagine eating dinner overlooking a Whole Foods would feel: eco-chic and a little sterile. That tone was softened by the gift bags filled with organic snacks and brewmaster Dave Ohmer rocking a felt fedora, complete with a German flag colored band and

Petrol Station Celebrates Anniversary this Saturday

I have lived in the wonderful, humidity-filled sweat box of Houston for a little over two years. I love the city, and one of the first places that facilitated that love was Petrol Station. For those out of the Loop, Petrol Station is tucked away in Garden Oaks/Oak Forrest area (aka the GOOF) just north

Rockwell Grill, a craft beer staple in Cypress for the past six years, is closing. Sunday, October 30th will be their final day of business. Rockwell has been under current ownership since 2010. Flying Saucer Downtown Ending Glass Night

There has been some talk and a bit of grumbling among the Houston Beer Knurd community with the Flying Saucer’s decision to end their glass night at their downtown location. Manager Joshua Justice reached out to Houston Beer Guide to offer some information about the decision. Kenneth Krampota: Why did you decide to cancel the glass

    Beers Looking At You

It was a couple of months ago while scrolling through my Facebook feed that I first saw mention of Beers Looking At You. The name struck me as interesting and so I started looking into it. I discovered that it would be a new spot to get growlers, and better yet it was just around

Have Your Cookie and Drink It, Too

Forget cookies and milk — cookies and beer is where it’s at. As craft beer has become more popular, interest in beer and food pairing has increased. Some of the most creative pairings involve a favorite American treat: Girl Scout cookies. As articles of Girl Scout cookie pairings spread across social media, Ballast Point Brewing

Conservatory: A new food hall and beer garden in downtown Houston

The founders of Prohibition Supperclub & Bar have opened a new craft beer and food destination in downtown Houston: Conservatory. Upon entering Conservatory, one can’t help but be amazed by the stunning marble floors, interesting architectural elements of the building, and industrial and wooden fixtures. The underground beer garden and food hall offers a unique setup and experience to the

  • Thanks Charles! We've decided to limit our map to Houston breweries (and breweries that primarily sell beer in Houston and/or its suburbs). While Shiner does have a 77XXX zip code, they are geographically much closer to Austin and San Antonio.

  • Shiner - Texas's largest craft brewery - is impacted by this barrel limit as well. They're currently the only craft brewery in Texas that isn't allowed to sell beer on site. They're unable to test out "small batch" beers sold on draft directly to consumers. Packaging and distribution is a huge portion of beer manufacturing, and preventing them from testing out new ideas is limiting their creativity and the potential discovery of a great new beer!

  • Excellent resource, the brewery map. I just want to request that you please add Spoetzl Brewery, in Shiner, Texas. Thank you!

  • I agree that Mr Goodman isn't the best messenger, but the message is still valid. The Texas Craft Brewer's Guild, comprised of the vast majority of Texas's small and independent breweries, is also against the Bill. If it passes, every brewery in Texas will be devalued. Investors will be less willing to invest, lenders will be less willing to lend, and breweries will find it more difficult to finance growth. This Bill will do nothing positive for small Texas breweries - it's only purpose is to increase the control distributors have over the Texas beer market. I personally no longer support breweries who have sold out to ABI, but I want that to be my choice and not a government mandate. Michael Graham Co-Founder Austin Beerworks
