A massive thank you to Karbach and MuXerHTX for your patience while we got this story out! With our new site officially up and running, we wanted to make sure we gave Frida Fest—and all the incredible effort behind it—the highlight it truly deserves.
The sixth annual Frida Fest was held at Karbach Brewing back on July 17th and 18th of this year, bringing together a collective of local artists and vendors, in celebration of the life of Frida Kahlo. Karbach again partnered with MuXerHTX, a Houston based all-female artist collective and non-profit organization, to celebrate the life and art of Frida Kahlo. Kahlo was a very influential early 20th Century Mexican painter who is most well known for colorful self-portraits, nature paintings and representations of Mexican culture at the time.

Frida Fest Six was a two-day celebration that kicked off on Friday, July 17th with a public art Rrception preview event in the Karbach Hopadillo Room. On display that Friday night were a collection of dozens of brilliantly imagined framed and free-standing original art works and tributes to Kahlo, as well as vendor items and clothing. The preview also included a DJ, small bites and appetizers and plenty of Karbach beer for those attending.
The event continued Saturday, July 18th in the Karbach Beirgarten. The fest was a sprawling display of local artists, vendors, special musical performances, as well as limited edition glassware available to commemorate the occasion. Also released was Mango Madness, an Imperial mango wheat beer, which was also available in michelada version as well. Mango Madness was a robust 8% ABV of flavor that paired perfectly with the michelada dressing on the rim. I am not one that delves into a michelada often, but there was no way I was going to pass up on trying the Mango Madness version in all its splendor. The visual presentation alone had me convinced to try one, and the flavor delivered on my decision to make an exception this time.

This year’s Frida Fest was the sixth installment of the event, made possible by a previously established relationship between Karbach and MuXer HTX. MuXer HTX Co-Founder Lizabeth Ortiz commented on this relationship:
Our relationship with Karbach began nearly nine years ago when we started hosting pop-up events there. Over the years, we've built a wonderful partnership rooted in community and a shared appreciation for bringing people together through art and culture. MuXer HTX produces our signature Frida Festival each spring, celebrating Frida Kahlo's life, art, and enduring legacy. A few years ago, Karbach approached us about creating a summer Frida Fest pop-up to coincide with the anniversary of Frida's birthday in July and the month of her passing. It felt like a natural extension of our mission and a meaningful way to continue celebrating her influence.
With each year, the event continues to grow and attracts more participation, and patron attendance grows with it. Frida Fest has steadily grown into a well-received celebration of Kahlo, as well as support for the community, culture, and lest we forget, great beer. Keep your eyes open for details of next year’s event as next summer approaches.
