NASA’s Artemis II, completed its lunar flyby this week, marking the first time humans have orbited the Moon orbit in 54 years. The crew of four aboard Orion capsule “Integrity” set a new human distance record at 252,756 miles from Earth. Space Center Houston’s visitor center hosted a viewing event where the community gathered to watch the launch, and Starbase Brewery chose that moment to showcase their latest debut.

Starbase Brewery, an active sponsor of Space Center Houston, unveiled “Go For Launch” Mexican style lager at the event. True to form, it delivered firm, crisp aromatics and the clean finish you’d expect from a proper Mexican lager. The timing deserves recognition: after multiple scrubbed attempts and delays, the beer finally released when NASA actually went for launch. Call it serendipity or good project management.

The partnership between Starbase and Space Center Houston does more than sell tickets and beer. It creates space (pun intended) for people who geek out over both brewing chemistry and orbital mechanics. Discussing Orion’s heat shield ablation over a cold lager is exactly the kind of conversation Houston does best.

Space Center Houston continues their successful News and Brews event series regularly. In these presentations attendees witness technical talks featuring engineers and astronauts at breweries across the city with ample opportunities for curious question/answer sessions. If dissecting mission parameters while sampling local craft beer sounds like your ideal evening, stay tuned to Houston Beer Guide for upcoming dates.
